Edmonton, AB, May 8, 2012- Edmonton Home Builder Rohit Communities is thrilled The City of Edmonton has announced the launch of the First Place Home Ownership Program, an initiative to help first-time home buyers who are looking for entry level housing find a financing option that puts owning their own new home within reach.
“The First Place Home Ownership Program will make a big difference for families looking to purchase their first home,” said Tim McCargar, Director of Strategic Planning with the City of Edmonton. “It’s an important part of the City’s strategy to attract skilled workers to Edmonton.”
The First Place Program was first introduced on a pilot basis in 2006, with Rohit Communities being one of two home builders in Edmonton selected to spearhead this initiative. Greenview Landing was the community that resulted from this project; it was very successful and the new homes built have since sold out. The program is now moving forward onto Phase One of the proposed phased development, after much deliberation and evaluation based on a set criteria from a number of Edmonton home builders; Rohit Communities was once again selected as one of two home builders to develop the remaining 18 vacant surplus school sites over the next 10 years.
The first projects that Rohit Communities will take on are the Edmonton communities of Tawa and Casselman, and will consult with community groups in Spring 2012 on design to ensure the new homes fit seamlessly into the existing communities.

The program is a partnership between the City of Edmonton, the Edmonton Public School Board, the Edmonton Catholic School District and the Government of Alberta.
