There’s a certain image that comes with owning a bungalow nowadays. More often than not people tend to associate bungalow living with retirement or a more mature lifestyle. I’ve lived in a bungalow my entire life and I’m a far cry from your typical bungalow dweller. Here are some of my favourite things about these one story wonders that may appeal to people of all ages:
- This one is a little obvious, but everything is on one level! Not to be an advocate for inactivity, but having everything just footsteps away is as major convenience that you just can’t get from a two storey home. It’s great for visitors who may have a harder time with stairs, those with small children, or the day after “leg day” (you gym-goers know what I’m talking about)
- Developed basement. Most bungalows have a finished basement that nearly doubles the square footage of your space! My main floor living space is a modest 1100 square feet but the basement is larger than your average two storey’s and works as an amazing rec space, extra storage and the most unbelievable hide-and-seek-in-the-dark play area you will ever come across.
- Bungalows tend to be in a quieter neighbourhood so they’re perfect for raising a family (not that I know what raising a family is like, but my parents raised me and I turned out fine =) )
- Having only one floor also means there are less places for ghosts to hide. Obviously something very important to consider when you’re buying a home.
On top of all these reasons for bungalow living, their designs have come a long way and there are some really beautiful bungalows in and around the city. Coincidentally and totally not an intentional plug at all, Rohit Communities has just released two bungalows developments in their Vistas at Allard and Vistas at Callaghan North communities in Southwest Edmonton so be sure to check them out!
